Creating a Path to Inclusive Education: A Glimpse into Amar Jyoti

Updated: Apr 21

At Amar Jyoti School, the concept of inclusive education is not just a theory but a thriving practice that has been at the heart of our institution since its inception. We believe in imparting education to children with and without disabilities together, in almost equal numbers, ensuring a barrier-free environment that includes trained teachers, prevocational skill development training, medical care, inclusive sports, and cultural activities.

Promoting Inclusion through Education

Inclusive education is a powerful tool for promoting inclusion and meaningful mainstreaming of children with disabilities. At Amar Jyoti, this philosophy is embedded in every aspect of our school's functioning.

A Day in the Life of an Amar Jyoti Student

The day at Amar Jyoti begins with a morning prayer followed by the national anthem in sign language, setting a tone of inclusivity and unity. Movement therapy exercises, specially designed for children with disabilities, are conducted under the supervision of trained school teachers and therapists.

Equity in Education

To enhance communication, sign language has been introduced as a third language at our school. Both teachers and students are trained in the basics of sign language. Our school also boasts an English language lab, accessible library, and preparatory classes tailored for children with disabilities, ensuring that all students have equal access to quality education.

Barrier-Free Infrastructure

Accessibility is key to inclusive education. Amar Jyoti School has ensured a barrier-free infrastructure, including tactile paths, accessible toilets, adaptable furniture, broad staircases, and ramps, to cater to the needs of students with disabilities.

Learning Beyond the Classroom

The school's infrastructure is designed to promote passive and incidental learning through the BALA (Building as Learning Aids) project, using physical space as a resource for education.

Comprehensive Therapeutic Intervention

Children with disabilities receive therapeutic interventions such as physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, psychometric assessments, and counseling, tailored to their individual needs as assessed by in-house professionals. These services are provided free of cost during school hours.

Supporting Students and Parents

Amar Jyoti School goes beyond academics to support its students. Textbooks and school uniforms are provided, easing the financial burden on parents and ensuring that every child has access to the tools they need to succeed.

At Amar Jyoti School, we are committed to creating an inclusive and supportive environment where every child, regardless of their abilities, can thrive. Through our holistic approach to education, we aim to empower our students to reach their full potential and lead fulfilling lives.
